HTMLjive

HTMLjive, a HTML editor written in JavaScript, was published on Jan 23, 1996 and it is considered by many to be the first serious JavaScript application. It is was released one month after JavaScript was released in a public browser. This version is a minor upgrade to the original to adjust for changes in the language.

AMPjive is a HTML editor for writing simple Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP). It is based on HTMLjive and HTML editor written in JavaScript that was published on Jan 23, 1996 and it is considered by many to be the first serious JavaScript application.

HTML editor in Javascript

Dunn Loring, VA -- HTMLjive, an Internet Web page editor was released today by OnServices. This editor is NOT a program which must be downloaded and run on your computer. Rather, using any Javascript compatible Web Browser, such as Netscape 2.0, any user on the WWW simply access a Web page which contains HTMLjive. This HTMLjive page then allows any intermediate Internet user to start creating their own Web pages without having to purchase a HTML editor.

While HTML pages can be created with a simple text editor, most authors use an HTML editor to make it easier to place the HTML format commands (tags) into their text. HTMLjive uses Javascript to place interactive button on a Web page. By simply clicking on the buttons the proper HTML code is placed into the text. This is much easier than memorizing the codes and proper syntax. When the user's document is complete in HTMLjive, the user can 'cut and paste' the document into their own application. For example, they could email it to a service provider who hosts Web pages. HTMLjive can also be incorporated into websites which will automatically accept documents.

"HTMLjive is a small step, but important step, in allowing a wider audience to put information on the Web. I fully expect to see this type of code incorporated into many of the new interactive websites like message centers and chat areas, " said Mr. Daly of OnServices. "Intranets in corporations are also expected to use this type of technology to allow their associates to produce Web documents."

HTMLjive features include:

• Optional on-screen help
• Three levels of HTML insertion:
  1. Simple. Just tags are inserted.
  2. Sample. Tags a sample text inserted.
  3. Prompt. User prompted for text, then tags and text inserted.
• Compact code with size less than many graphic images.

For this release, HTMLjive supports the most commonly used tags. These include:

• Headlines level 1, 2 and 3
• Centering
• Bold, Italics and Preformat
• Paragraph, Line Break and Horizontal Rule (Line)
• Anchors (or hyperlinks)
• Ordered, Unordered and Definition Lists
• and Images with Left, Right or no Alignment
